WESTCHESTER, N.Y. Super Bowl revelers on Westchester roads after Sunday's game should designate a sober driver to avoid being flagged by a planned police blitz on drunk drivers.
New York State and Westchester County police will be stepping up their patrols on state and county roads because of DWIs they see each year after the Super Bowl.
There will be some increased attention to DWI on Sunday night, said Westchester County Police spokesman Kieran OLeary. Our officers are always vigilant in enforcing DWI laws and Super Bowl Sunday will be no exception.
OLeary urged those who plan on drinking during Super Bowl XLVI to do anything but drive after the game.
Whether you are celebrating on Sunday night or drowning your sorrows, make sure to take a cab or have a designated driver if you have been drinking, OLeary said.
The New York State Police Department will also have more troopers on the road than usual.
Were going to have increased patrols and are going to have increased vigilance to look for people drinking and driving after the Super Bowl, said State Police Sgt. Michael Turino.
Turino said that the number of people who drive while intoxicated on Super Bowl Sunday is not a huge increase on the normal amount, but they generally are higher.
