Vigil of Hope in Scarsdale for Missing Student

Hope seemed to echo off the walls of the Scarsdale Synagogue - Tremont Temple Tuesday, during a Service of Hope for Lauren Spierer, 20, of Edgemont. Spierer has been missing from Indiana University since Friday.

"I know Lauren's family knows about this service and I know Lauren will one day know about this service," said Ellen Plum, President of Scarsdale Synagogue - Tremont Temple and Emanu-El, "People are here because they care."

Spierer's college and high school friends, as well as their families, teachers, members of the congregation and others came to the service to express support for Lauren and the entire Spierer family.

"We can only hope and pray for her safe return," said Gary Kronfeld, a father of one of Spierer's college friends. "My daughter is in the same circle of friends. They do a lot of the same things. A lot of it is being lucky. It is incomprehensible."

Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman wrapped up the service by saying, "We have been told that wherever ten gather in the name of God, their voices will be heard. May that be so this evening, and may the light of hope we have lit guide and protect Lauren, and her family."
