After more than a year of talks surrounding CVS’s arrival to Armonk, the North Castle Planning Board finally approved the pharmacy’s site plan in late October. Although the vote was unanimous, the project had previously been met with complaints from North Castle residents.
In July 2012, Armonk resident Judy Willsey called CVS a “stinking, lousing, no-good corporation.” She shared the opinion of more than a dozen citizens who spoke in front of the Planning Board last summer.
Some of their concerns could be eased with the addition of a drive-through pharmacy, speed bumps, and a driveway that connects to the shopping center and the nearby Hergenhan Recreation Center, as some were worried about the potential traffic-flow implications CVS’s addition would cause.
Al DelBello, the lawyer representing CVS, hopes these changes symbolize a compromise between CVS and the town.
“We’ve been in front of the Planning Board and Town Board for quite some time now and I think we’ve done everything that has been asked of us,” DelBello said. “The drive-through and the Hergenhan entrance were not originally in the plan, they were added by request of the town.”
CVS was issued a special-use permit by the North Castle Town Board in July, although a timetable for their move into the vacant A&P building has not been set.
