In advance of New Year’s Eve, the New York Police Department, FBI and Homeland Security have issued a joint security bulletin warning for those planning to attend the celebration in Times Square.
Earlier this week, the agencies released the bulletin, that noted, while there is “no information to indicate a specific credible threat” associated with the Times Square celebration, those in attendance should be vigilant and on alert.
Citing recent terror attacks in San Bernardino, Orlando and France, the bulletin also warned that they “remain concerned about unaffiliated lone offenders and homegrown violent extremists targeting the event.
“Al Qaeda and ISIS remain intent on attacking western targets and continue to call on individuals to conduct independent attacks in the United States using edged weapons, vehicles, imrprovised explosive devices and small arms,” the bulletin notes.
“Terrorist attaacks in the United States, as well as France, Germany and Belgium, which resulted in significant casualties have heightened concern about similar attacks being replicated in the near term.”
