The Gym Hosts "Taste of the Towns" Thursday Night

ARMONK, N.Y. – Hundreds of North Castle residents and neighbors filled The Gym in Armonk Thursday night for “Taste of the Towns,” a fundraising event to benefit Support Connection and its work helping those battling breast and ovarian cancers.

“Being that it’s breast cancer awareness month anything we can do to help raise awareness is great,” said Melissa Fink of Event Link NY, which planned and organized the event along with business partner Liz Moss. “It’s really important because there’s not enough support for the people out there who have the diseases and I just feel it’s something important to do for women.”

Fifty five local vendors from throughout Westchester did their part to help raise money at the second annual Taste of the Towns event for Support Connection, a Yorktown-based organization that provides emotional, social and educational support services to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

“There’s no other organization in this area that provides the help and support to people with breast and ovarian cancer,” said Katherine Quinn, the executive director of the organization. “While everyone is looking to raise money for the cure, which is critical, there really is no place like ours to come to. There’re so many people living with and dealing with cancer and we’re the organization that handles that part of it.”

Support Connection celebrated its 15th anniversary on Sept. 10.

The Gym general manager Jaimie Nicastri said she was pleased with the turnout and the work of Event Link NY and its planning.

“They really organized well and made the place look great,” Nicastri said. “They did a great job transforming The Gym into another place and providing a place that’s beautiful for the vendors.”

Cristina Ansnes, director of North Castle Public Library, and Edie Martimucci, the head of reference, represented the library at the event.

“It’s very generous of The Gym to make space available for this,” Ansnes said. “It’s a real sense of community and it’s just a wonderful event.”
