The 10 new venues, part of a $55 million initiative to boost tourism in the state, potentially conflict with aspects of the Federal Highway Act, a federal law banning over-the-counter food sales and other products in the rest areas, according to wgrz.com.
The Highway Administration and the state have already been at odds over the latter’s defiance of a 2013 federal edict forbidding the "I Love NY" highway signs that currently pepper New York highways, the report said.
CBS 2 measured some of the signs as being as high as 25 feet tall.
