The state education department released the results of the English Language Arts (ELA) and math tests that students in grades three through eight took in May.
As expected, the scores in many districts are lower than they were two years ago, before the state made the scoring tougher.
"While the majority of students statewide met or exceeded the state's proficiency standards in both math and ELA, overall performance remains low and the gaps in achievement persist," a statement from the Board of Regents said.
