State Assembly Report Shines Light On Heroin's Grip

Families affected by heroin addiction joined New York state leaders Monday to unveil a new report on statewide heroin abuse that reaffirms that addiction is an illness not a flaw in a person's character, Time Warner Cable News reports.

The report, released by the Assembly Minority Task Force on Heroin Addiction, studied the addiction, withdrawal, treatment and prevention. One suggesion in the report is that all stages of treatment be considered one, Time Warner Cable News says.

Another problem is withdrawal takes a lot longer than insurance companies are willing to cover. The report comes after forums throughout the state seeking input, Time Warner Cable News reports.
