WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. The snow that fell on Westchester County Saturday made the roads slippery and dangerous for commuters throughout the day, leading to several accidents, according to a Westchester County police official.
There were 12 accidents throughout all four of the countys parkways Cross County, Hutchinson River, Bronx River, and Saw Mill River. Three of the incidents had injuries, but none were major, according to the county police.
He warned that the roads were still covered in snow and ice.
State Police Sgt. David Malone of the New York State Thruway Authority police stated that the only issues are in the Rockland and Westchester county area. However, the conditions were being cleared up.
On our cameras, snow has lightened up, and plow trucks are getting to the roads, said Sgt. Malone. Im looking at the cameras now. Our plow trucks are going over the Tappan Zee Bridge and launching snow into the distance.
He stated weve had a few cars off the road here and there, but thats about it, and reported no major injuries.
For those looking to the air for travel, the Westchester County Airport has surprisingly reported only one cancellation, according to the on duty operations manager, Brian Potter.
AirTran 667, flying inbound from Atlanta, was set to arrive at 12:43 p.m. and take passengers to West Palm Beach at 3:33 p.m. under AirTran 1453, but AirTran 667 was unable to take off and both flights were canceled.
Besides the one outbound flight being cancelled, the airport has been keeping up with the runways and maintaining safe conditions as best they can, Potter said.
Its actually been great, said Potter. Like I said, thats the only cancelation weve had. Anything else thats been delayed is because of wherever theyre coming from.
The airport has actually been busy throughout the day.
The airports been open the entire time, Potter stated. Weve had a lot of corporate travel in and out. Also, JetBlue is running their regular operations today as well. Everybodys reporting good to fair breaking and everythings pretty good.
