Severe Storms Stall Armonk Fol De Rol Carnival

Opening day of the 37th annual Fol De Rol carnival sponsored by the Armonk Lions was postponed Thursday when severe thunder storms rumbled through the region. As long as the weather cooperates, the events will go on as scheduled for the rest of the weekend.

"We don't want to put kids on these rides if it isn't safe," Fol De Rol Chair Anthony Baratta said. "It's common sense."

Baratta said the decision to postpone the opening was made by those in charge of the rides since they were the most aware of ride safety.

A severe thunder storm watch was in effect Thursday until 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The weather is expected to become less intense Friday, with scattered showers predicted with the possibility of thunder.

"Just my luck," Armonk resident Joe Andriossi said. "This is one of my favorite parts of summer. I hope the weather gets better."

The Fol De Rol event is the only fundraiser for the Armonk Lions, a non-profit organization with the motto, "we serve."

The festivities include a carnival-like atmosphere with rides, food vendors, and games.
