Mount Vernon resident Allen Copeland pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, both violent felonies, in May, for his role into two incidents that took place last year. He was scheduled to be sentenced this week, but his case was adjourned to August.
Copeland pleaded guilty to his role in a Yonkers shooting on May 20 last year and a Mount Vernon shooting the following day. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., noted that the guilty pleas were entered as the trial for the Yonkers shooting was scheduled to begin. Both instances were street disputes, he said.
In addition to his guilty plea, Copeland is also facing life in prison if he is convicted on a 50-count indictment dating back to a 12-hour crime spree in Westchester last year, which led to the fatal shooting of Trevon Boswell.
Copeland will face up to 25 years in prison on the attempted murder charge and 15 years on the weapons charge.
