Ryan, Jenkins Join U.S. County Gov. Association

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - County legislator William Ryan (D - White Plains, Scarsdale) was named the president of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) and invited to join the Board of Directors for the National Association of Counties (NACO) last week.

Ryan, who will sit on NACO’s Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee, said collaborating with other county officials will result in more creative solutions for Westchester residents.

“To build stronger communities, it’s important to be innovative and know what is making a difference in the lives of others. The give-and-take in these organizations is unparalleled in this regard, and I look forward to bringing back a lot of superb governance ideas to Westchester,” Ryan said in a statement.

NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario said Ryan’s place on the national association will give New York an advantage.

“Having representation on the governing board of the national association will ensure that the unique needs and concerns of New york are addressed,” Acquario said in a press release from the Westchester Board of Legislators. “Without the participation of Bill Ryan and other Westchester legislators, including Chairman Ken Jenkins, who are active in NACO, New York would not be as effective in making its case for national policy.”

Last week Board of Legislators Chairman Kenneth Jenkins (D-Yonkers) was invited to joined NACO’s Community and Economic Development Steering Committee where he will join his counterparts in discussing housing programs, public works, and economic development.
