Royal Hanneford Circus Returns to White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The 39th annual appearance of The Royal Hanneford Circus in White Plains continues through Monday at the Westchester County Center.

Maria Liotta, a Cortland Manor grandmother, who attended Sunday morning’s show, said, “It’s an exciting time for young people to be a part of the circus. It’s so close up you can almost touch the performers.”

Connor Kenny, a six-year-old who attended the show with his parents, said, “It’s pretty cool.” Connor said he enjoyed the clowns most as well as the animal acts.

Three performances of the circus were held Saturday and Sunday with three scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Sarasota, Fla. based circus, which features everything from tigers and rhesus monkeys to cyclists on a tight rope was attended by a few thousand fans.

Billy Martin, the ring master, said there are 42 performers, in addition to seven tigers, four elephants, 10 dogs, seven monkeys and one ape.

The performers appear on stage with the animals and perform a series of acts, including quick costume changes, trapeze and tight ropes.

“It’s a family tradition, generations come to see the show,” Martin said.

Tickets are available for Monday’s shows at the box office.
