If the line to return presents at Sears was any indication, residents of Westchester County didn't receive coal in their stocking, but they didn't get the right sized sweater either.
The Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown was packed with people purchasing gifts on sale or returning presents they received the day before. Holiday cheer was still seen in line at some stores, as shown by the Pitz and Sullivan families. Emily Pitz, with friend Erin Sullivan and Aunt Alena Sullivan, donned striped holiday hats while taking advantage of sales at the mall and returning some gifts.
"We were all very good girls this year, so Santa was very good to us," Elena Sullivan said. "But today we're doing a bit of both-- returning some things and shopping for some others."
Erin Sullivan sported an entire bag full of clearance-priced wrapping paper, showing it is never too early to start getting ready for next Christmas.
For some, such as Carrie Padilla of the Bronx, the line to return wasn't too daunting.
"It's not bad, considering it's the day after the holiday" she said of the returns/exchange line, which was about eight people long at the time. She was returning a Play Station Three. "It's not working."
Chris Louise of Mount Vernon was also was returning something at Wal-Mart on Dec. 26.
"I thought it was going to be a lot worse. I'm super surprised," she said. "I was dreading the worst. This is my first problem. I'm here to return a gift that I bought. They sent me the wrong thing."
Gayle Milstein of Tarrytown was with daughters Maya, 10, and Zoey, 8. They were perusing at the Galleria Mall.
"It's empty right now," Milstein said. "We did do a return. The line was short."
She mainly came to the mall to look for pants for her daughters and check out the deals.
"They needed some pants so we decided to see what the sales were," she said.
At the Jefferson Valley Mall Leslie Fields-Cruz and her daughter Sumara Cruz said it was too busy for them to return some presents from yesterday at Macy's.
"It's okay, we're still enjoying getting out and shopping," Fields-Cruz said. "The lines really aren't that bad."
