Red Flag Fire Warning Issued for Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — The National Weather Service issued a red flag fire hazard warning for all of Westchester County from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

A red flag warning means conditions are ideal for wildfires and brush fires due to low humidity and drought conditions, particularly when high or erratic winds are a factor. Authorities say the fire risk is elevated for Monday due to the expected dry conditions and gusty west winds predicted between 15 and 25 mph.

The warning serves to alert area firefighting and land management agencies to be on standby and prepared should wildfires occur.
