YONKERS, N.Y. -- An accident after a police pursuit has resulted in the closure of a stretch of the Saw Mill River Parkway in both directions in Yonkers on Tuesday and an active search for one or more suspects.
The closure following the 12:10 p.m. accident is between Exit 3 (McLean Avenue) and the Cross County Parkway (Exit 4) with backups to the Henry Hudson Parkway.
The Yonkers Police Department is assisting the NYPD for a search of a possibly armed suspect who may have fled on foot into the Tibbets Park, authorities said.
The search is being conducted by multiple NYPD and Yonkers PD units.
The suspect is described as a black male. Residents are advised to avoid the area if possible and report any suspicious persons who may be in this area.
