Pipeline Foes Deliver 30,000 Petitions to Albany

ARMONK, N.Y. -- Calling for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to halt the Algonquin natural gas pipeline expansion, opponents of the project delivered 30,000 petition signatures to his office earlier this week, according to lohud.com.

Activists contended that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission drastically underestimated the risks of the pipeline’s proximity to Indian Point's infrastructure, lohud.com reported.

Neil Sheehan, an NRC spokesman, said a hazards analysis of Indian Point showed that were the pipeline to rupture, the plant could safely shut down, said lohud.com.
