YONKERS, N.Y. -- One lane on the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway has reopened Tuesday after the parkway had been closed in both directions nearly the entire afternoon after a police chase ended with a suspect being fatally shot.

One southbound lane reopened at around 5:30 p.m. The northbound lanes remain closed.

The closure has created gridlock on nearby roadways, including some side streets.

The suspect was shot and another suspect taken into custody after the police chase started in the Riverdale section of the Bronx just before noon and ended with a crash on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers on Tuesday afternoon.

The unidentified suspect was reportedly fatally shot during a foot chase at Tibbetts Brook Park.

Yonkers Police said it has been informed by the NYPD that there are no additional suspects being sought.

The stretch of the parkway where the 12:10 p.m. crash occurred is between Exit 3 (McLean Avenue) and the Cross County Parkway (Exit 4).

The chase reportedly began when a gray Nissan hit an NYPD vehicle in the Bronx and then sped away.

Several people suffered non-life threatening injuries in both the crash and subsequent manhunt, including two police officers, who suffered minor injuries according to WABC-7.

At one point during the chase, the Nissan drove the wrong way on the Saw Mill, WABC 7 reported.

The Yonkers Police Department assisted the NYPD in the search near Tibbets Park, authorities said.
