The nine injured people were taken to local hospitals, the Columbus Dispatch said.
Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a Somali refugee who was living in the U.S. as a legal permanent resident, ran into pedestrians with his car on campus before exiting the vehicle with a butcher knife and slashing victims, according to CNN. The suspect was shot and killed by an Ohio State police officer less than a minute into the attack, the report said.
The alert, issued at 10 a.m., said the attacker was at Watts Hall at 19th Street and College on the north campus, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Abdul Razak Ali Artan was the subject of an Aug. 25 feature in The Lantern, the school newspaper, called "The Humans of Ohio State." The story, which originally was published in print only, has been reproduced online. You can read it here.
"This is my first day," was quoted as saying in the story. "This place is huge, and I don’t even know where to pray.
“I wanted to pray in the open, but I was scared with everything going on in the media. I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be."
