The proposed new position of Police Commissioner would replace the current existing Board of Commissioners into a singular administrative entity, according to the proposed legislation text.

The Chief of Police would have command responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the police department, not the Commissioner, according to the text.

The Town Board of the Town of North Castle would have the power to appoint a Commissioner of Police who would serve at the pleasure of the board. The proposed Commissioner's compensation would be fixed by the Town Board from time to time.

If approved, the Commissioner would have the power to make appointments, promotions, and to remove employees, consistent with the applicable laws concerning the procedure for removal of employees.
