While appointments are appreciated, the New York Blood Center said walk-ins are welcome.
Donors are asked to bring identification with a photo or signature. They should eat well and drink fluids before making the donation.
According to the New York Blood Center, close to 2,000 donations are needed each day in the New York/New Jersey area for patients who require a lifesaving blood and/or platelet transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and mothers delivering babies, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia and many more.
Those with any questions about eligibility to donate due to travel outside the US, medications or medical conditions, are asked to call 1-800-688-0900.
The blood drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Whippoorwill Hall-Stage Area of the North Castle Public Library. You can register online.
