Motorists Contend With Slippery Commute, Accidents Reported

With light snow and flurries falling in most of the area during the Friday morning commute, motorists have had to contend with some slick roadways.

Several school districts in the area, all in Northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess, scheduled delayed openings. For the rundown, click here.

An accident just before 8 a.m. is blocking the right lane of the southbound Sprain Brook Parkway South at Route 100, with backups to Tuckahoe Road.

Nearby, an accident is blocking the shoulder of the westbound Cross County Parkway West at Route 22/Columbus Avenue (Exit 8) with backups up to the Hutchinson River Parkway (Exit 9).

In Dutchess, an accident was reported at Route 55 at Wiseman Road in Lagrangeville just before 8 a.m.

In Rockland, an accident is blocking the shoulder on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway at Exit 12 (Route 45) with backups to Exit 11 (New Hempstead Road) at 8:30 a.m.

Light snow Friday morning will result in snow-covered surfaces for anything that is not treated, the National Weather Service said in a special statement,

The light snow will continue to result in slippery conditions and reduced visibilities, making for hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute, the statement said,

Motorists should drive extra slowly and carefully, leaving extra space between vehicles.

Light snow or flurries are likely through 1 p.m. Friday. Skies will then become mostly sunny with a high around 38.

The overnight low will be around 25.

Saturday will see increasing clouds with a high between 38 and 40.
