“Most of our parks – 90 percent – are still closed due to debris in areas that need to be inspected before we can open them,” said Peter Tartaglia, director of marketing and public relations for the Westchester County Parks Department. “We’re taking that extra precaution.”
As of Thursday, Dunwoodie Golf Course and Sprain Lake Golf Course, both in Yonkers, are now open. VE Macy Park in Ardsley is also open and Muscoot Farm in Somers was reopened "only because it has a generator,” said Tartaglia.
The amount of damage varies throughout the parks system. Glen Island in New Rochelle was submerged underwater and portions of the boardwalk at Playland Park in Rye were ripped away by the storm. Also, Playland is being used as a staging area for Con Edison to deploy trucks, according to Tartaglia.
“This storm was so severe, [we’re opening] case by case and we’re going day by day. We’re hoping to make some announcement before the weekend,” said Tartaglia.
