Loronda Murphy Will Appear in Court Thursday

ARMONK, N.Y.  – Loronda Murphy, the former North Castle Republican chairwoman who was indicted for mortgage fraud, is scheduled to appear in State Supreme Court in White Plains Thursday.

Murphy was present in court March 1 with her lawyer, Robert C. Gottlieb, who asked to be dismissed from the case. Gottlieb said his request was granted, but declined to explain why he will no longer represent Murphy.

Tracy Everson, deputy communications director for the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, said Murphy will come to court Thursday with a new lawyer or request one to be appointed by the state.

Murphy was indicted on 19 counts of fraud in August. She is charged with stealing more than $50,000 in loan money from five Westchester County homeowners. She faces a maximum of five to 25 years in state prison if convicted of the top count of her indictment.
