Loronda Murphy Fraud Case Slated For February

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The former North Castle Republican chairwoman Loronda Murphy, who was indicted for mortgage fraud, made an appearance in State Supreme Court in White Plains Thursday. Her case was adjourned until Feb. 7.

Murphy, a North Castle realtor who lives on North Sterling Road, was indicted in August on 19 counts of fraud. Janet DiFiore, Westchester County District Attorney, charged her with a home mortgage fraud Ponzi scheme through the Settle One Corporation, a home mortgage closing company located on Main Street in Armonk.

Murphy is charged with targeting homeowners who believed the new mortgages on their homes would pay off their pre-existing mortgages. Murphy is charged with stealing portions of their new loan money and leaving their pre-existing mortgages unpaid.

Murphy is charged with stealing over $50,000 in loan money from each of five Westchester County homeowners.

Bail for Murphy was set at $100,000 bond and she faces a maximum of five to 25 years in state prison if convicted of the top count of her indictment.
