A longtime varsity lacrosse coach who grew up in the area was one of six people killed in a small plane in Texas.

The twin-engine Beechcraft BE58 crashed about 70 miles northwest of San Antonio on Monday, April 22.

Angela Webb Kensinger, 54, a Fairfield County native who grew up in New Canaan, was killed along with her husband, 55-year-old Stuart Kensinger, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Angela Kensinger, known as "Angie," was the girls lacrosse coach at the St. John's School in Houston.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all members of the Kensinger family, especially their son, Philip '16, and many individuals within our community who were close with Angie and Stuart," St. John's School Headmaster Mark Desjardins said in a statement. "There are no words to describe the overwhelming sense of grief that we all feel over this devastating and sudden loss of two very close friends of this community."

Angela Kensinger graduated from the Hotchkiss School before attending and graduating from Yale. She was a great-granddaughter of William J. Gaynor, who served as New York City mayor from 1910 to 1913 and was also a descendant of American business magnate and philanthropist Cornelius Vanderbilt.

Her husband, a Houston real estate investor, was also a Yale graduate. The two met at Yale in the 1980s.

The others killed in the crash were also Houston residents: Mark Damien Scioneaux, 58; Scott Reagan Miller, 55; and Marc Tellepsen, 45, as well as the pilot, Houston financial adviser Jeffrey Weiss, 65.
