Kerry Kennedy Due In Court Tuesday

NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. — It'll be a date in court Tuesday for Kerry Kennedy, the former wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and daughter of the late U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.

The 52-year-old Bedford resident was arrested Friday morning on drug-related charges after New York State Police in Somers investigated a hit-and-run car accident on Interstate 684.

Officials said they received 911 calls from several motorists who reported a white vehicle operating in an erratic manner that had collided with a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes south of Exit 4. As a result of the collision, the car sustained damage and a flat tire, left the highway at Exit 3 and became disabled on State Route 22, according to police.

North Castle police said they located the the 2008 Lexus RS 350 and found Kennedy seated behind the wheel. State police arrested her and charged her with driving while her ability was impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.

Kennedy's spokesman Ken Sunshine denied she was impaired. “Kerry Kennedy voluntarily took breathalyzer, blood and urine tests – all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system,” he said in a statement. “The charges were filed before the test results were available.”

Kennedy reportedly plans to plead "not guilty" to the charges, according to the New York Daily News and is said to be looking into whether an undiagnosed medical condition was responsible for the incident.
