Iranian Hackers Infiltrated Westchester Dam Off I-287, Says Report

RYE, N.Y. -- Hackers from Iran gained access to the control system of a small dam on the Rye-Port Chester border in 2013, prompting concerns that reached the White House, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Sunday evening.

The incident occurred during a wave of hack linked to Iran’s government against websites of U.S. banks, and shortly after then-Defense Secretary Leon Panetta publicly denounced Iran’s hacking.

Details of the intrusion on the Bowman Avenue Dam, in between Port Chester Middle School and I-287, are still classified. But the breach is a major concern to U.S. officials who are concerned about possible digital intrusions into America's power grid, bridges, dams and pipelines.
