In Push For A Statewide Increase, Cuomo Raises State Workers' Minimum Wage

NEW YORK, N. Y. -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday that he wants to lead by example by raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour for state workers with the hope that it triggers support for a general wage hike in the state, according to NY State of Politics.

Cuomo, at a rally with labor leaders in New York City Tuesday, said he expects the cost to the state to be about $20 million to boost pay for about 10,000 state workers. Empire Center, a fiscal watchdog group, put the number at $25 million, NY State of Politics said.

The move comes as yet another push to state lawmakers to back a broader minimum-wage hike in the state, NY State of Politics reported.
