Edward Lopez, the 68-year-old who had been missing from the Lakeview Chateau Community Residence in Dutchess County since March 14 has been located in New York City and is in good health, state police announced Wednesday.
After conducting an exhaustive search of over 2,500 acres in the Town of Stanford which included search teams, canines, aviation assets and divers, Lopez was observed in lower Manhattan by a subject who recognized him from the media coverage and alerted authorities to his location.
Lopez was picked up by officers of the New York City Police Department and turned over to State Police Investigators stationed in New York City.
Lopez was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he received a medical and mental evaluation and was then released to members of the New York State Police who transported him back to the Lakeview Chateau Community Residence.
The Stanford Fire Department, New York State Forest Rangers and other agencies assisted with the search, including the MTA Police Department and the New York City Police Department and the NYPD.
