Eight people are under arrest after the New York State Police conducted a DWI Saturation Detail New Year's Eve in Westchester County and a sobriety checkpoint in Yorktown Heights.
The detail led to a Leandra's Law arrest in Greenburgh. Musa Dreshaj, 46, of the Bronx, was charged with Aggravated DWI With a Child in the Vehicle, a felony, after he was stopped by police on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh. Police say he had two children--ages 14 and 8 in the vehicle. According to cops, Dreshaj took a breathalyzer test and allegedly had a BAC of .12 percent. The children were released to the custody of their mother.
Police arrested arrested 27 year old Margaret Soto of Crompond and charged her with DWI after she allegedly ran out of gas and her automobile became disabled on the Bear Mountain State Parkway in Peekskill. Soto provided a breath sample that indicated she had a Blood Alcohol Level (BAC) of .16 percent, cops said. Soto was issued a ticket and is due back in City of Peekskill Court on Jan. 12.
In addition, State Police say a seat belt check conducted on Washington Street, Peekskill led to the arrest of 19 year old James Grande of Montrose. According to State Police, Grande had a BAC of .09% and was issued a ticket for DWI. A court date of Jan. 12 has been set for Grande in Peekskill City Court.
Police arrested 50 year old Loredana Pelusi of Yonkers on a felony DWI charge after her vehicle was stopped on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the Town of Mount Pleasant. Police said she refused to submit to a chemical test. According to police, Pelusi had a previous conviction for DWI within the past 10 years. She was issued a ticket and is due back in Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Jan. 5.
State Police say Kevin Kingston, 41, of Pleasantville, was charged with DWI after he was stopped on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Mount Pleasant. Kingston refused to submit to a chemical test, cops said. He was issued Uniform Traffic Tickets returnable to the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Jan. 12.
Juan Perez, 27, of the Bronx was arrested on DWI charges in the Town of Cortlandt, police said, after a property damage automobile accident on Gabriel Drive. According to police, Perez submitted to a breathalyzer test and had a BAC of .13 percent, police said. He was issued a ticket and is due back in Town of Cortlandt Court Jan. 9.
A sobriety checkpoint at the entrance to the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown Dec. 31 led to the arrest of two people, police said.
Susan Kessler, 56, of New York City was charged with DWI. Kessler was arrested and processed without incident and issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Yorktown Court on Jan. 8. A 25-year-old man from New Rochelle was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Yorktown Court on Jan. 3. His name has not been released.
