PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The Girl Scouts of the USA will turn 100 this year and to kick off the festivities The Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, based in Pleasantville, will hold a gala honoring women in leadership.
The Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Gala allows us to celebrate a movement dedicated for 100 years to developing young women into leaders, Pam Anderson, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson CEO said. What better way to honor our past then to pay tribute to those who exemplify leadership today?
The gala, to be held on March 15 at the DoubleTree in Tarrytown, will honor many local women for their outstanding excellence in presenting themselves as role models for young girls today in the Girl Scouts. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) will be honored for serving over three decades of public service to New York.
Westchester County native and former Chappaqua Girl Scout, actress Vanessa Williams, will be honored for her roles in major feature films and Broadway plays. Elizabeth Bracken-Thompson, a partner at Westchester Countys public relations firm Thompson & Bender will be honored for her accomplishments in business entrepreneurship. The Watson Women of IBM will be honored for their work in developing female leaders at IBM.
Heart of the Hudson, which serves girls from throughout Westchester and the Hudson Valley, will also honor a local Girl Scout designated as a Young Woman of Leadership and Excellence who has not been named.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $175 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are available and a silent auction will also be held during the event. All proceeds raised will support the many Girl Scouts programs for the over 32,000 girls in the Lower Hudson Valley area. To become a sponsor, attend the event, purchase a journal ad, or for more information, contact Mary Ellen Hoffman at (914) 747-3080, ext. 739, mhoffman@girlscoutshh.org.
Molly Gibeau-Griffin, director of development for the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, said the celebratory event will help develop Girl Scouts of the future.
"Our gala not only celebrates 100 years of Girl Scouting and the achievements of female leaders, but also raises funds that will enable us to broaden our reach and provide Girl Scout opportunities to girls in communities throughout the lower Hudson Valley, said Gibeau-Griffin in an email.
