WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Fox News reporter Arnold Diaz was thanked at a Valhalla BOCES campus awards ceremony last week for saving the school almost $2,000 over a corrupt T-shirt printer. The school's SkillsUSA club had put forth the money to create shirts for fundraising reasons for their annual trip to a skills competition.
"I'm very happy to help by doing something I enjoy doing," Diaz said.
SkillsUSA is an annual event held in Syracuse where the students compete over various academic fields including advertising design and carpentry.
"The idea was to make the shirts and sell them for profit to fund the club's trip," BOCES commercial art teacher Damian Powers said.
After the club gave $1,925 to the Bronx T-shirt printer Promo 1 and never heard back, Diaz answered the call by investigating the story on his popular show, "Shame Shame Shame."
Diaz visited the campus and interviewed various faculty members and students involved. He and his crew tracked down the vendor at his shop, but he failed to comment and drove away from the cameras.
A few days later, the school received two money orders from the vendor totaling $1,925.
Electrical construction teacher Frank Mascetta said the club researched other vendors with a more careful eye to make sure they didn't lose anymore funds.
A bad situation turned out to be good for the kids, the school, and SkillsUSA, Mascetta said. Alls well that ends well.
