Former Greeley Teacher's Sex-Abuse Case Slowed By Scheduling Conflict

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A scheduling conflict for the attorney defending former Horace Greeley High School drama teacher Christopher Schraufnagel against sexual-abuse accusations has caused the legal process to slow down.

The attorney, Stacey Richman, cited her involvement with an unrelated trial in Manhattan when she requested another adjournment during a Thursday appearance at New Castle's town court in Chappaqua.

New Castle Town Justice Douglas Kraus granted Richman's request and adjourned the case to early May. However, Kraus urged Richman to send defense material to the Westchester County District Attorney's office as soon as possible.

An assistant district attorney present consented to an adjournment but expressed displeasure with the case being delayed further.

Schraufnagel appeared with Richman but did not speak to Kraus.

The former teacher, who worked at Greeley for 12 years before resigning in September, is alleged to have had inappropriate sexual contact with three students.

Previous coverage of Schraufnagel's legal situation can be read here.
