The first storm of the season is expected to include something of almost everything -- namely freezing rain, sleet, snow and ice.

It could also result in treacherous driving conditions overnight Monday into Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Advisory for inland portions of the area, including Northern Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Dutchess. Icy conditions are expected from midnight to 6 a.m. in coastal areas and from midnight through 9 a.m. in inland areas.

A sharply colder Monday, with a high temperature of only about 40 degrees under partly cloudy skies, will signal the start of the abrupt change in the weather pattern after a warm Sunday that saw a high temperature of around 60 degrees in most parts of the area.

Temperatures will decline as the day progresses Monday, reaching the freezing mark in the evening, which will coincide with the arrival of the storm system.

Snow and sleet are expected to begin sometime after 7 p.m. Monday, followed by rain and sleet after 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight wind-chill values will be between 25 and 30 with the actual low temperature hovering around the freezing mark in most spots.

Precipitation is expected to continue during the day Tuesday, with a high temperature reaching the mid 40s as the mixed bag of precipitation changes over to all rain sometime during the morning.

Snow and sleet accumulation of a half inch to up to 1 inch is possible before the changeover.
