Family of Four Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. – New York State Police and the Lewisboro Police Department are investigating what they said appears to be a murder-suicide of a family of four in Cross River.

Police said they were called to the home at 2 Lambert Ridge late Tuesday afternoon for a welfare check when they discovered the bodies. The deceased were identified as Samuel Friedlander, 50, his wife, Amy Friedlander, 46, and their two children, Molly Friedlander, 10 and Gregory Friedlander, 8. Police would not say how the family was killed.

The children were students at Lewisboro Elementary School and town Supervisor Charles Duffy said grief counselors and social workers would be on-hand Wednesday to help any students who may need it.

“It’s a tragedy for the community,” Duffy said. “The best we can do is support our children and help them through this. They’ll need it when something like this happens in a tight-knit community. We have to hug them a little tighter tonight.

According to real estate websites, the home at 2 Lambert Ridge in the Michelle Estates section of Cross River has been up for sale with an asking price of $799,000.

State police said the investigation is continuing at this time. Anyone with information is requested to contact them at 914-277-3177 or 914-769-2600.
