NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. Community residents and leaders gathered in the Bethesda Baptist Church Tuesday night to view President Barack Obamas State of the Union Address for what Rev. Dr. Allen Paul Weaver, Jr. said he hopes is the first of many times the community can come together to view the presidents speech.
We thought it would be good to come together as a community to view the State of the Union, Weaver said. Weaver also said he hoped the event would increase voter registration numbers and supply information about the state of the country to those who need it especially in the current economic times.
During his address, Obama gave his plans for many issues that affect all Americans, including job creation, improving the educational system in the United States and cutting the national debt.
Eastchester resident Don Blouweiss was one local who said he was pleased with what he heard from the president.
He knocked it out of the park, Blouweiss said about Obama.
Team members of New Rochelle for Obama 2012 were also comforted and intrigued by what Obama mentioned in his speech.
He really established our country, and what we need to do, said team member Sharon Kaplan.
