County Legislators Announce Budget Hearing Dates

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- County legislators have scheduled three public hearings where  lawmakers will discuss County Executive Robert Astorino's proposed 2012 budget for Westchester.

Legislator Kenneth Jenkins (D-Yonkers), chairman of the Board of Legislators, is urging residents to comment on the proposed budget and suggest changes for the final 2012 budget.

"To be effective guardians of the taxpayers' money, elected officials need to actively involve the public in the budgetary process," Jenkins said in a statement. "This is how we learn what our priorities should be in terms of spending and generating revenues."

County lawmakers, which have a Democratic super-majority, have vowed to pass a budget with Astorino, a Republican, that does not increase the county tax levy.

Legislators will hold a public hearing for southern Westchester residents at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22. A second forum for northern residents has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 30. The locations of the meetings have not been announced yet.

The final hearing will be held on the 8th floor of the Michealian Office Building on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
