Candidates Vie for Two State Supreme Court Seats

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County voters will be asked Nov. 8 to choose two candidates for New York State Supreme Court Judge from a field of three candidates.

The judges will serve 14-year terms in the court's 9th Judicial District, which includes Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Rockland counties. According to the thevoterguide.org, the Supreme Court has unlimited jurisdiction and can hear any type of case, but usually hears cases outside the jurisdiction of other courts. Justices are elected from each of the state's 12 Judicial Districts.

The position pays $136,700, but will increase 27 percent over the next three years starting next spring. Candidates are Edward Borrelli, Robert M. DiBella and Paul Marx.

Borrelli, running on the Republican and Conservative lines, is a former Yonkers City Court Judge and a current Special Referee in the Supreme Court, Westchester County. DiBellla is currently an Acting Supreme Court Justice and became a Westchester County judge in 2004.

Marx is a practicing trial and appellate attorney for the past 28 years who represented clients in a several types of cases before the state Supreme Court. He is based in White Plains.
