Byram Hills Dance Team Dances for Dollars

BYRAM HILLS, N.Y. -- The Byram Hills varsity dance team will hold its annual Dancing for Dollars Dance Expo at Byram Hills High School on Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m.

This is the fifth year the charity event has been held and it has raised up to $6,800 each year, according to athletic director Mike Gulino. This year's recipient will be the Queens Community House.

Money is raised by selling tickets to the event, in which the Byram Hills team, four other high school teams and local dance groups participate. They each perform two separate dances.

Bake sales held before the event also contribute to the fundraiser.

There are 12 members on the Byram Hills team, including its captains Kayla Anfang and Jordyn Lampert, both seniors. The team will perform hip-hop dancing, they said.

"We're here to build spirit within our school and the community and use our team's effort to help other kids," Lampert said.

The team performs at home basketball games and in competitions against other schools under the direction of coach Noel Santini.

"It's our final showcase of the year and a great way to show what we've done while raising money," Anfang said.
