A moose described as being 7-feet and weighing 800 to 900 pounds was spotted at the Foxhill Townhouse on Hawkes Avenue Friday morning by two residents who contacted Daily Voice. The moose went behind the townhouse and then went into the woods, Joanne Peck reports.
"I went to close the upstairs window and saw a huge moose just standing there looking up," Peck said. "When I left for work I decided to drive through the complex behind our house in hopes of finding Mr. Moose, but I didn't."
It's unclear if it's the same moose that was spotted elsewhere around Northern Westchester this week, including in Millwood and Bedford, but it does look similar to the sighting captured on video in Millwood early Thursday morning.
Fellow Foxhill resident Doreen Bakalor also reported seeing the moose.
Moose sightings are extremely rare in southern New York. There are only an estimate 800 moose in the state, with most located far upstate near the Canadian and Vermont borders. Unlike deer, moose do not form herds and are solitary animals, adding to the likelihood the same moose was spotted in both Bedford and Millwood.
