Bomb Threat at Armonk Middle School Reported

This story has been updated to include further information from the school district.

ARMONK, N.Y. – A bomb threat at H.C. Crittenden Middle School Tuesday morning forced the evacuation of the school, but proved to be an idle threat.

A North Castle Police Department spokesperson said town and county police responded to the threat but nothing was found and they left the situation to school authorities.

Jackie Taylor, the Superintendent of the Byram Hills Schools District, said, “We received a note about an explosive device and called the police and evacuated the building. The police came and checked and gave us permission to return to school.”

Taylor said more than 600 students and faculty members were evacuated but everything went smoothly because the students were familiar with fire drills and the warm weather made being outdoors easy.

She said she hadn’t experienced a similar incident in 15 years at Byram Hills.

She declined to identify the identity of the person who sent the bomb threat, noting that a police and school investigation is in progress.

Stacey Reinhardt, the mother of students at Coman Hill and Wampus elementary schools, said she received a voicemail from Wampus principal Debra Cagliostro notifying her of the bomb threat and the fact that everyone at Wampus was safe. “The emergency phone system is very helpful,” she said.
