Commuters received a scare when police were called to the platform of a Metro-North station in Westchester following reports of a suspicious package.
First responders were dispatched shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 to the Metro-North station in New Rochelle where there were reports of multiple suspicious packages in the area. Police cordoned off the area temporarily as they investigated the incident.
According to an MTA spokesperson, the Westchester County Police Bomb Squad and MTA Police Department Canine Unit responded to the scene along with local and county law enforcement. It was ultimately determined that the packages were no threat, and had accidentally been left behind by a vendor, who left four packages behind.
The platform was cleared within an hour, in time for the evening commute. The scene was cleared out without incident.
