TARRTYOWN, N.Y. - Update - As of 10:30 a.m., the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office said they had not confirmed the identity of the body. An autopsy is being conducted. The state police also would not confirm a published report that the body has been identified.
The body was discovered Wednesday afternoon washed up on the rocks on the Hudson River shore of Lyndhurst, the National Trust Historic Site in Tarrytown, Scott Brown chief of the Tarrytown Police said.
Brown referred further questions to the New York State Police, saying that department would have jurisdiction over the body. A spokesman for the state police said that his department would normally take jurisdiction if the body recovered was thought to be someone who had jumped off the Tappan Zee Bridge.
State Police Inspector Noel Nelson said that no new information was available, as of 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Scott Uzzo, 24, of Hawthorne jumped from the bridge on Dec. 28 and is still missing.
Marjorie Anders, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that a track inspector discovered the body about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.
