Banksville Gets Its Power Back

ARMONK, N.Y. - Con-Edison and other electrical crews restored much of North Castle's power as of Thursday night but Banksville remained in the dark until Friday afternoon.

Muffy Troy of Troy's Nurseries in Banksville has a generator at her house up the hill from the nursery, which basically kept the business open throughout the week.

"We've been using the generator at my house and we've been filling garbage cans with our garden hose and then filling our watering cans and doing it all by hand [at the nursery]," Troy said.

She opened her house to employees for bathroom use as well throughout the week and her family was able to stop by for a shower and a meal.

Troy said crews worked until about 11 p.m. Thursday to try to restore power but then a transformer exploded on Banksville-Bedford Road, which delayed the fix.

"The transformer blew up and they said there was a great big ball of fire," Troy said. "I heard it because I was reading in bed. I could hear a loud 'pop-pop-pop,' it sounded like fireworks."

Troy's son John Troy said Con-Ed workers seemed unorganized and ineffective throughout the last couple of days.

"We had about eight different Con-Ed trucks coming in here at different times asking us if we had power," John Troy said. 'I said 'what are you talking about, don't you guys communicate with one another?' It's not a very efficient company."

John Troy said Con-Ed told him power might not be restored until next week.
