Astorino Promotes Halloween in Westchester

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Things are a little different when a man meets a gal with a deathly pallor, a hungry gleam in her eye and an ear-splitting shriek.

"You don't mind if I don't kiss you goodbye?" Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino asked one of actors from Horseman's Hollow on Thursday at Philipsburg Manor. The actor, in full ghoul costume, said nothing. This wasn't unusual: the only sound she had made during that morning were a few loud shrieks.

Astorino got a sneak preview of the Horseman's Hollow program at Philipsburg Manor on Thursday, a day before the Halloween event opened. In addition to meeting some of the Horseman's Hollow cast in full make-up and costume, Astorino was on hand to promote the many Halloween-themed events taking place in Westchester County this year.

"Anything that we can do to promote the greatness of Westchester, I'm all for because we've got many hidden gems in the county," he said.

Natasha Caputo, director of Westchester County tourism and film, also promoted Halloween in Westchester.

"There's something for everyone happening in every part of Westchester this fall—haunted houses, cemetery tours, spooky trails, hundreds of scarecrows, apple cider, concerts, museum exhibits, fine dining with seasonal local ingredients, even a Halloween pet parade," Caputo said. "Spooky Spectacular Westchester is also an opportunity to remind visitors that they can explore history and culture in the Hudson Valley."
