VALHALLA, N.Y. Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced Thursday that the property known as the North 60 on the Grasslands Reservation in Valhalla will be used as a high-tech research and development complex.
The North 60 is ideally located in the middle of Westchesters bio-tech corridor, Astorino said in a press release Thursday. It can take advantage of the highly trained workforce, and market prices are extremely attractive right now.
Astorino said now is the right time to seek out developers for the project. The 60 acres of land sits directly adjacent to the Westchester Medical Center on the Grasslands campus, which was originally purchased in 1915. The land has since been undeveloped and was proposed to be the landing spot for several business projects in the past such as a bio-medical research center and a simulcast theater for the New York Racing Association, the press release said. Astorino said the county is currently accepting requests for qualifications from developers who are interested in the property.

This is a job-creating initiative with multiple benefits, Astorino said in the statement. It will strengthen Westchesters growing medical and bio-technology industries, and in doing so, improve the countys economic foundation and future competitiveness.
Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Joan Maybury said the decision to develop this land in the future is a plus.
We welcome the opportunity to review proposals and to partner with the county to develop this property in a meaningful way that will benefit the residents of our town, Maybury said in the press release.
Requests for qualifications are due by April 24. Donna Greene, a spokesperson for Westchester County, said there is no estimated timeline for the project and that it will move forward after the requests for qualifications are reviewed. According to the county, objectives of the project include providing the county with substantial benefits, including rents, taxes and assessments, and creating a development that generates high quality jobs and other local economic benefits for the community, among others.
