Armonk's Ehrman Pool May Open With New Buyer

ARMONK, N.Y. – The fate of the Ehrman Pool has not been determined but the North Castle Town Board announced that a buyer for the pool has been identified, which would alleviate its financial hardship and enable it to open this summer.

John Cronin, a town board member, said after the board met with a number of potential buyers it found one who has agreed to purchase it. Cronin wouldn’t identify the buyer, however.

“The buyer has been working with the pool board on a plan on how we can get the pool open,” he said. “The Board will pursue a referendum if the private buyer does not come through.”

The referendum would authorize the town to purchase the pool. Town Supervisor Howard Arden said it would take 60 to 90 days to hold a referendum.

The pool board has requested the town purchase the pool for $1.7 million, which would cover all pool liabilities, including its bank loan. The pool was reconstructed for $3 million in 2006 and the pool board has a mortgage of about $8,800 a month.

To raise money for pool operations before a buyer is confirmed, the board asked pool members for immediate payment of membership fees, “to generate enough cash to guarantee we can open and run through the summer,” Cronin said.

“This money will be escrowed until it is determined we have enough and will be returned in the event we do not,” he said.

He also encouraged members to recruit new members.

“The pool will likely provide a credit for members who sign a new member up,” he said.
