Armonk A&P to Close Feb. 15

ARMONK, N.Y. - It's official -- the Armonk A&P will close Feb. 15, according to Marcy Connor, a member of the A&P communications team.

Store closing signs have been posted on the supermarket’s front for more than a week with closing dates ranging from Feb. 1 to sometime in March, according to store employees.

The closing will leave Armonk temporarily without a supermarket. Construction of Armonk Square is underway with DeCicco Family Markets set to be the anchor tenant. The store may be open by the end of the year.

A sign posted at A&P tells  shoppers they can visit other A&P stores in Mount Kisco, Bedford and Thornwood.

Eleanor Ommani, an Armonk resident who said she has been shopping at the A&P for 21 years, said she'll miss the store.

“It's very important to have a store so close,” she said. “I signed the petitions that opposed the closing."

She said the store was very important to the community because it offered jobs to youth and handicapped people.

"I know some of the workers and they're so unhappy," she said.
