NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The winner of a million dollar Powerball ticket sold in New Rochelle remains elusive, even to the owner of New Roc Deli, where it was sold.
One of three winning $1 million tickets in Saturday’s Powerball drawing was sold at New Roc Deli last week, which hasn’t been cashed yet, according to New York Lottery officials. A winning ticket for the $430 million jackpot was sold in New Jersey, officials confirmed.
The winning numbers were: 5-25-26-44-66 with the Powerball 9.
Amed Alshrci, the owner of New Roc Deli, said Monday he didn’t know who he sold the winning ticket to. It is the largest winning ticket at the store since a $2,500 winning Take Five ticket in 2014.
“I don’t know who won, no one has come in yet to claim it or celebrate,” he said. “Nobody has called in to let me know they won with a ticket from here.”
Seven other tickets matched five numbers for a payout of a million dollars each. Three of those were sold in New York, with the other two coming from Long Island. Two were sold in Illinois, with the others coming from Virginia and California.
This was the largest Powerball jackpot since January’s $1.6 billion prize was split amongst three lucky lottery ticket holders. According to reports, the estimated jackpot for the latest Powerball drawing sits at $40 million, 10 percent of Saturday’s haul.
The deli owner joked that he was curious what his cut of the $1 million prize would be.
“I saw it on TV, then everyone started coming in here and telling me (that someone had won with a ticket from his store,” Alshrci added. “I don’t know the guy, nobody has come in, but I’m looking forward to seeing how much of that he shares!”
